Objectives
To have an up-to-date knowledge of the development of future earth observation satellite constellations.
Results
A database gathering satellite operators, platform and payload manufacturers, the types of end-user products targeted by the constellation, the financial credibility of the players and the technical characteristics of the satellites. Periodic bulletins and targeted analyses highlighting the activities and strategies of the various stakeholders.

Context

As part of its missions, CNES conducts monitoring activities on NewSpace actors to understand the current dynamics and anticipate changes that may impact the space domain. Between 2017 and 2019, CNES DIA/IP (Innovation, Applications and Science Directorate/Innovation and Foresight) strenghted the monitoring and dynamic representations of the data elements collected by Geo212 and its partner TMCftn.

Project description

Geo212 has designed, implemented, collected, compiled and exploited a database of information about world-wide satellite constellations that are currently being completed and those that will be completed in the future, or have been abandoned. This database lists about 90 constellations, each described by about 100 indicators indentifying sensor characteristics, revisit capabilities, but also investors and financial credibility, and target markets.
